(The underlying intention of Spanning Tree Protocol is to transform a switched network with physical loops into a logical tree network without loops. The IEEE802.1d protocol puts the redundant port into a "blocking state" by running a complex algorithm STA (spanning-tree algorithm) on the switch, so that the computer connected to the network has only one link when communicating with other computers.
