(The standard released in January 2010, namely "6rd" technology. Rapid deployment of IPv6 on IPv4 infrastructure (6rd) is built on the 6to4 mechanism, which enables service providers to rapidly deploy IPv6 unicast services to IPv4 sites, and service providers provide customer premise equipment (CPE) for such sites. Similar to 6to4, 6rd uses stateless IPv6 encapsulated in IPv4, transported over an IPv4-only network infrastructure. Unlike 6to4, the 6rd service provider uses its own IPv6 prefix instead of the fixed 6to4 prefix. One service provider has used this mechanism for its own IPv6 "rapid deployment": it took only 5 weeks from the first disclosure of the 6rd principle to over 1,500,000 residential sites offering native IPv6 (the only thing a site needs to do is turn on 6rd.) time.)
