光纤熔接是用全自动的专用设备——熔接器(FusionSplitter)将两段光缆中需要连接的光纤分别——连接起来,熔接时采用短暂电弧烧熔两根光纤端面使之连成一体,这种连接方法接头体积小、机械强度高、光纤接续后性能稳定,因而使用广泛。光纤接续后光线传输到接头处会产生一定的损耗量称之为熔接损耗或接续损耗。由于光纤接续质量影响光纤线路传输损耗的客限、光纤线路无中继放大传输距离等参数,因此要求光纤接头处的熔损耗尽可能小,以确保光纤CATV信号的传输质量。
