(The MAC (MediaAcceS.SControl) address, or MAC address, hardware address, is used to define the location of the network device. In the OSI model, the third layer of the network layer serves as the IP address, and the second layer of the data link layer serves as the MAC address. So a host would have an IP address, and each network location would have a MAC address assigned to it.)
