Positioning is an essential service for mobile computing. Although the typical GPS receiver has a wide range of applications, it consumes a lot of energy and can not be used in many applications. Ob - in many sensing scenarios, the location information can be post processed when the data is uploaded to the server. We designed a cloud unloading GPS (co GPS) solution to let the sensing equipment actively perform the task - cycle through the GPS receiver and record enough original GPS signals for post-processing. In public information such as global navigation satellite system (GNSS) satellite ephemeris and earth elevation database, cloud service can obtain high-quality GPS position in milliseconds of original data. Using our mobile sensing device platform called Cleo, we evaluated the accuracy and efficiency of the solution. Compared with the heavy signal processing of more than 30 seconds on an independent GPS receiver, we can achieve three orders of magnitude lower energy position marking.
