(The two protocols in the TCP/IP transport layer are the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) defined in RFC761 in January 1980 and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) defined in RFC768 in August 1980. Both protocols support upper layer protocol communication. For example, TCP provides transport layer support for protocols such as HTTP and FTP; UDP provides transport layer support for Domain Name Service (DNS) and Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP).
